About Us
Meet Alicia
Alicia Journey is an attorney who is a member of both the California State Bar and the United States Supreme Court Bar. She graduated from the prestigious Pepperdine School of Law in 2009 with her Juris Doctorate. In the same year she received a certificate in Dispute Resolution from the world renowned Strauss Institute in Dispute Resolution. Alicia is currently getting her PhD in Clinical Psychology.
During law school she worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in their Criminal Division focusing on sexual crimes again children. She was a prosecutor for the Riverside District Attorney’s office specializing in Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse and Elder Abuse and tried 34 trials from misdemeanors to three-strike prison cases and attempt murders. She spent time training law enforcement on investigating these crimes.
After leaving the District Attorney’s office she opened her own law practice, focusing on domestic violence and child custody issues. She lives in Santa Barbara, California with her two beautiful children and two adorable kitties.
Alicia is a survivor herself of intimate partner abuse and sexual assault. Due to her experiences both personally and professionally she started a non-profit for this demographic called Beyond the Bruises. This foundation’s mission is to create a one-stop shop for resources and assigns a team of professionals that will walk along side survivors as they go through the process of healing to becoming self-empowered individuals who understand and operate in life with the understanding that what happened to them does not define them. She is dedicated to equality and social justice.
We Specialize in Intimate Partner Abuse and Custody
Due to the complexities surrounding domestic violence or intimate partner abuse, Alicia is personally dedicated to walking each client through the process in the most gently and efficient way possible. She knows firsthand how overwhelming the process can be and is committed to taking as much pressure off of the victim so they can concentrate on what is truly important, which is healing. Most victims stay in abusive situations due to feeling stuck, frozen, or hopeless. Alicia simplifies the process and supports each client who walks through the door (virtually speaking). Another reason victims stay is because there are financial concerns and/or children involved. These are not hurdles that cannot be overcome. It is Alicia's mission to protect and provide stability for every victim through protecting their legal rights. When children are involved it can seem like you'll never get away from your abuser. But the law protects the victim and their children. That is what Alicia fights to do; help you get the legal protection and financial stability you need.
